Location & date

North Devon, UK: 9th January 2013

Subject

The snowdrop {Galanthus nivalis} is the iconic winter flower in the UK, often pushing its way through the snow (hence its name) as early as January. This one has just emerged and the flower head is about to open.

About this snowdrop image

This was taken on an unusually warm morning in January in my garden in North Devon. There was light drizzle in the air, which meant that all the snowdrops were covered in water droplets. Positioning the tripod was a bit awkward in order to get a nice clean background, however this particular snowdrop was a bit raised up on a bank, which made things a little easier.

Camera setup

Nikon D800, 105 mm f2.8 lens
ISO 200, f/10. 1/60 sec. Tripod used.
